Diary,

I was going to talk to Edward as soon as he got home, but to my surprise he came to me first and said that the mini-vacation together sounded like a great idea. I sometimes forget that my boy is so special, I am so used to it, that I forget he can read my mind. It makes me laugh every time I forget.

We packed our things and were off to the small cabin I rented for us in Prince Edward County in Ontario, Canada. I found the location fitting, because Edward will always be my little prince. We settled into our cabin and went out for a quick hunt. While we were hunting he answered a few of my questions without me having to ask. “I do love you and Carlisle, you are my family, you are a wonderful mother, and I am not really sure why I feel so lonely, but you are right I am lonely.” He half whispered to me. I felt so sad that there was nothing I could do to help my son.

Once we had returned to the cabin Edward sat at the piano in our room and began to play. He hasn’t played in a while. I forgot how wonderful it was to hear him play. He seems so happy when he is playing. He is off in his own world. Suddenly I knew what I could do to make him happier again. This is going to be tough to keep a secret. “Edward,” I said tapping him on the shoulder to drag him out of his trance, “I am going to go for a walk I will be back soon.” I blocked my thoughts the best I could, I did not want to ruin the surprise for my son. It is so hard to surprise him.

I ran to a nearby town that has a piano shop, hoping I was far away enough that Edward could no longer hear my thoughts. I ordered a gorgeous grand piano for my son. It cost a fortune, but money is not something we have to worry about (a big perk to being alive forever). I had paid the owner a substantial amount extra to have the piano delivered to the house the next day, but it is worth it to see how happy Edward will be.

After our few days of vacation, we decided it was time to head back home. I had a very hard time keeping my thoughts to myself, and almost blew it when I had to have Edward run a small errand for me before coming home. I had to get to the house first to explain the piano to Carlisle and tell him to keep his thoughts off of it. It was going to be hard to surprise Edward.

A few moments after I had explained everything to Carlisle we heard the faint sound of Edward approaching the house. We quickly shoved the thoughts out of our minds and covered the piano with a blanket. All the while hoping Edward had not heard anything. Once Edward came into the house he knew something was up, his eyes fell on the blanket covering the piano and his smile changed to a confused expression. He looked to me for an explanation. “What’s going on? Esme? Carlisle?” he asked, annoyed he didn’t see it coming. Carlisle and I looked to each other, and back at Edward, and then simultaneously said “go ahead and pull the blanket off son. Edward pulled the blanket off and his jaw fell open. We had actually managed to surprise my little mind reader. I was very proud of myself, and of my Carlisle. It is not an easy thing to do, to surprise Edward.

Edward tells me constantly how much he loves his gift. He is so grateful, so happy; it is so nice to see him smiling again. He spends most of his time in front of the piano composing beautiful music. He says he wants to write me a song to thank me. I can’t wait to hear it. Everything that Edward plays is so beautiful. I am very excited. I will tell you all about it next time.

Always,
Esme
