The un-named doctor is here with me. He came in alarm and it is in the dead of the night. He was asking how my premonitions are. I said that I haven’t had one In a long time, and then, all of a sudden, I had one:
It’s so blurry. Because of the medication? I see a man. Bare chest-ed. Long blond hair held back by a ribbon. He has a wicked snarl on his mouth and he bends down to something hidden by a white sheet. I hear a scream and just barely recognize it as my own. It becomes muffled by this man's hand. The picture jerks away from me. And I see him snarling again with red blood around his mouth and staining his teeth. I see my pixie hair cut. All of this came to me in just a few seconds.
The doctor could tell I had a premonition. He asked about it. And I described the man. I could tell this doctor wouldn’t penalize me for ‘seeing’.
“’That’s crazy,’” The doctor says.
“’Yes, I know-’”
“’James isn’t going to kill you. At least not as long as I am here.’”
The doctor opens the gate and looks outside. No-one is around.
He closes and locks both of us in the cell.
“I am a vampire,” he says.
“Excuse me?” I laugh.
“I am an immortal. All that you have heard about Vampires is mostly fake. We can go out in the daylight, we don’t need to sleep in coffins, actually we don’t sleep at all. What else? What else? Don’t go directly in sunlight. Drinking blood is a must.”
“Wait. What?”
“I am going to make you what I am. An immortal.”
"Why?” I ask. I'm not completely afraid. I'm curious and shocked.
“’The man you saw, James, wants to kill you” he sniffed the air.
And I know why now. Your smell is…intoxicating. He wants to drink your blood. And I am going to save you.’”
He is kind and lets me write all of this down. He says I might not remember this later and if it is this important to me…then I can write it down. He also says that I might not fully remember my ‘human’ life. It feels so weird to consider this life as my human life. Up until a few moments ago, I thought this was the only one. It was just Life. And now…Life has a whole new meaning.
I'm about to find out how he will save me. And I'm about to find out what it means to be an immortal. Surprisingly, I am not afraid. I am not exactly curious either.
I'm being rushed now. And if this ‘James’ is as close as my saviour thinks, then I better go. He is leaning towards my neck and is whispering, “’Your Life starts Now.’”
