I was waiting for Alice to answer me on the phone, and I could tell she wanted to speak privately to her ‘family’. So knowing I was on a speaker phone, I knew they were holding back. How should I handle this to get the result I wanted? So I spoke first. “Um, Alice, you and your family need to discuss this without me, so how about I call you back in about a half hour.” Alice answered, “Marcus that is very thoughtful of you. A half hour would be perfect.” I hurried to say, “I made an error in telling you who would be with me. Actually it slipped my mind as they are not with the Volturi,” more mumbles now, unfriendly hisses, so I went on to say “Alice you can probably see who they are, but please hold it to yourself please.” Alice answered quickly, “I understand now, I was seeing 2 vampires with you that I did not recognize. Phone me in 30 minutes.”
To a vampire 30 minutes has no meaning for us, but we do have clocks in our ‘palace’ so we know what time it is to contact humans if we need to. Even though time has no meaning to me I started pacing. I understand now the human saying ‘a watched pot will never boil.” I laughed to myself, watching the clock slowly tick away. I wanted to call at the fifteen minute mark, but I continued to wait until the time was right.
The phone was answered on the first ring. “Hello Marcus,” Alice said, with her wonderful voice that made me feel like we were the best of friends. “Hello Alice” I answered with a smile in my voice. “I have been waiting for your answer regarding my request”, “I know, I saw you!” Alice replied with a laugh. “Marcus you should have looked in the mirror, it was rather humorous.” “Well Alice, I cannot wait anymore, unless you wish to see a vampire with no skin, or a vampire with no insides just skin.” I heard everyone laugh this time.
Carlise replied first, “Marcus my old friend, it is wonderful to hear you laugh again.” “Thank you Carlise, it seems I just woke up after a long sleepless dream.”
“Well Alice will you meet with me?” I asked, she answered, and “Yes Marcus we will meet with you.” “Oh wonderful Alice, I am so happy to hear that!” Where and when would you like to meet? I told you that you are the one to choose.”
“Well Marcus, I have already made arrangements. Our private jet will pick you up tomorrow at noon. You will land in Las Vegas at noon with all the time changes you will go through. So we will meet tomorrow the 9th. I have a Limousine with very tinted glass picking you up, and you will be brought to the Paris hotel and casino. Check in as Marcus Volturi, you will have a suite for you, Dimitri, and the two guests. Each of you will have your own quarters for privacy. If you need to feed we ask you to go at least 100 miles away from where we are staying. Edward, Bella, Jasper and I will be at the same hotel. I have a suite on another floor. We will meet in the Tower Room at 10pm tomorrow night. Afterwords I’m sure you want to get back as soon as possible, I have our private jet waiting to take off at 6 am, which will put you in Rome late on the 11th, I hope that is soon enough for you?”
I was taken aback, “Alice, I can’t believe you did all this within a half hour,” and that’s when I heard very clearly from all of them “That’s Alice!”
“Alice, can I ask you why Vegas?” “Well Bella’s never been there so we wanted her to gamble a little and have some fun.” “One more thing Marcus, you need to dress appropriately, as do the rest of you. So I will leave clothing and filled luggage for you to wear, and please no black robe, it’s not this year fashion!” Again I heard everyone laugh.
I finished by saying “Thank you Alice, I really appreciate this. Don't forget to keep the secret I have until tomorrow, if you can with that mind reading brother of your. Edward, please don't dig into Alice's mind, as this is suppose to be a surprise for you and Bella. I will not keep you waiting, I promise”
So here I am writing while I am on the Jet, waiting for liftoff. Where will Alice lead me on the road that is mine to take?
